How to read the calendar

The listed duration is the maximum along the central path, not the duration from every city. Local circumstances depend on latitude, longitude, elevation and the horizon.

A partial eclipse can cover a large region while the central total or annular path remains narrow. Search a city to find the first locally visible event and all contact times.

When to begin planning

  • International total-eclipse trips: 12 to 24 months before the event.
  • Regional travel: 6 to 12 months before the event.
  • Weather mobility plan: compare climates early, then finalise 3 to 7 days ahead.
  • Equipment rehearsal: at least one month ahead, with a final check the week before.
